Het doel van een FATO-verlichtingssysteem voor bovengrondse helihavens aan land is om de piloot die 's nachts opereert een indicatie te geven van de vorm, locatie en omvang van de FATO.FATO-lampen worden langs de randen van de FATO geplaatst en zijn vaste omnidirectionele lichten die wit tonen.
